Shoji screen barn door type install

Beech shoji screens for 'barn door type' installs, closet and bathroom doors.
Prairie style kumiko pattern (14) with Bamboo Warlon - the bamboo pattern in the Warlon really pops with shadow behind it. See the image below to show the bamboo pattern in front of white for contrast.

Custom Cherry shoji screens for walk through doorway. Each shoji 31" x 81" x 1-3/8" with K20, lower Cherry door panel and 1 mm Bamboo Warlon. Pictured with a light and dark background to show the Bamboo Warlon pattern better.

Nice figure in the Cherry panels.

The clean kumiko join requires an angled cut on both vertical and horizontal kumiko.

Beautiful little shoji screens built in Beech with 1 mm bamboo Warlon and our K20 pattern.
These are pocket shoji, so the outer stiles are 1/2" wider to go into the pocket and make sure no gap shows. The darker backdrop, pictured below, really pops the bamboo pattern.
(The change in shoji wood color is due to the camera compensating
for a different background tone.)

The horizontal kumiko that end on a vertical kumiko are angle cut
so the join is not visible from the side.

Wood clamps and wedges hold the join
together while the glue dries.

This is the kumiko/insert sandwich - Spacers are cut from cardboard  to align the upper and lower kumiko grids during assembly or the vertical kumiko will not align properly.

And of course Elvis had to step in for scale.

Heights Kitchen and Bath

Beech shoji with Cedar kumiko and 1 mm Bamboo Warlon with one of our fancy kumiko patterns. Only 3 of the 6 shoji are pictured, we didn't have room to set them all up.
The most vertical 'keys' we've ever built into this pattern.
Elvis stepped in for scale he is 6 ft tall.

With a dark and light background.

Many parts - many cuts.
Pictures of the vertical and horizontal kumiko grouped by design cuts.

The blunt end detail.

Assembly.
