Walters

A large Sapele 'Shoji' door - 50" x 92". This door combines elements of western and Japanese design. Much like a Japanese exterior door but with 2.0 mm White Unryu Warlon Acrylic instead of wood panels. Note the narrow stiles and rails - on a western door these would be double the width and the light feeling would be lost.

Elvis stepped in to provide scale. He is 6' tall.
Keith Richards and Eric Clapton were busy.

Inlaid Ebony door pull and Sapele - classy! Another detail we use is to have a little bevel between the stiles and rails - the little shadow line to the right of the pull. On a western door this would be completely flush. On a Japanese door, typically the rails and stiles are of different thicknesses and show a reveal at this point. Though our rails and stiles are the same 1 3/8" thickness, the bevel reflects the Japanese design.

Herring Homes

Two LARGE Shoji screens for a double pocket door opening.
For comparison, the blue tape indicates a normal 80" door height.

These Shoji are 48" wide and 100" tall. Careful attention to proportions resulted in these large  Shoji screens having a pleasing balanced look.

They are made from European Beech, with 2 mm white Warlon acrylic, Beech lower door panels, large inlaid Ebony pulls and brushed nickel edge pulls. (pictured below)
